Meet Elton, a brave and resilient dog who has found his forever home through Bark at the Moon. His journey from hardship to happiness is a testament to the power of love and second chances. I had the pleasure of speaking with Rebecca, Elton's dedicated owner, to learn more about their inspiring rescue success story. Read on to see our conversation about how Elton came into Rebecca and her family's life, and the incredible transformation he has undergone since his adoption.
How did you first find out about Elton? What drew you to him?
We saw an adoption ad on social media. He looked like he had experienced a very hard life & I just knew that he deserved so much better!
What made you feel that Elton was the right dog for you? Was there a specific moment or feeling that confirmed your decision?
Mark & I had an initial meet and greet with just Elton and his foster parents. We couldn’t believe how sweet he was despite his scars and past. He is such a good dog that deserved a chance to have a forever family and a wonderful life. We knew that he would be a good fit with a family with other dogs. We had a second meet and greet with our 2 dogs and it went really well—and we knew!!
How did the adoption process look like for you?
We had telephone interviews and provided references as a part of our application. It was a smooth process. We had two meet & greet visits also as a part of the adoption process.
How would you describe Elton's personality?
Elton is the sweetest boy! He is very smart and loves being with his fur siblings. We worked very hard on his behaviours that were a result of his mistreatment (e.g. reactivity on a leash, poo eating). He has come so far and we are very proud of him! He loves to cuddle his humans on the couch. I remember the day that he first pushed his body into my legs for a butt scratch!
How is Elton doing post-adoption? Have there been any significant milestones in his behavior or health since he joined your family?
Yes! He is doing great! He has gained a good, healthy amount of weight! He is much better on a leash (walking in the neighborhood) and not so reactive to other dogs. He no longer eats poop (a behaviour resulting from being starved) and he loves cooked chicken topper on his kibble and a bite of Tim Bit! He has been an amazing addition to our family!! 🐶💙 He is a constant reminder that your past does not not define you! ✨
